SURGERY APPROVED DURING IDES

Hello, I’m curious if anyone has managed to get their surgery approved during the medboard process and if so what they did to accomplish that approval

Necessary surgery doesn’t need approval. The prohibition is against elective surgery and the nuance of that prohibition varies by Service.

I assume by your forum name, you are AF. I was AF also and military docs performed surgery on me while in the process. It was not an elective surgery.

I appreciate the information. Now regarding emergent surgery, does it have to be done by a military doctor or can it be done my an in network provider back in the states?

Emergency surgery requires no pre approval, but must be reported to your PCM as soon as possible.

Emergency care means care for an illness or injury that threatens your life, limb, sight, or safety.

No, it can be any MD, DO.

Chaplaincharlie, you have been such a great help throughout this. Unfortunately my case manager just sent me an email saying I can only get emergent surgery by a MTF. Is this true, and if so what exceptions are there. By the way I am over sees and am trying to get the surgery done stateside.

I’m not sure you are talking emergency surgery if it can wait to travel to the US.
