TDRL Reevaluation

I am pending my TDRL reevaluation. I chose the MTF option. However, I was also just reevaluated by the VA and my disqualifying condition went from 50 to 70% (MH). Will the DoD accept the VA rating and will I still have to go to the MTF appointment? What if the DoD doesn’t agree with the VA rating?

DOD does their own thing. TDRL is more like the old LDES system where they come up with their own ratings. They do use the VA information though. You will still need to do your TDRL appointment. The good news is that if the VA raised it then as long as you continue treatment you have a good chance of keeping your 50% rating onto PDRL or even getting it raised to 70% on PDRL.

You MUST attend the DOD exam at the MTF if they schedule it. Sometimes they review records from VA and make a decision without you needing to come in person. Either way make sure they do the TDRL reevaluation before 3 years are up or you will fall of and lose everything.

Thank you for the information! I'm confused because all of these appointments are happening over a short time period and I wasn't sure if they were related to each other. I should have my MTF appointment in about a month. I'll get updated medical records from my provider for that appointment and see where it goes. I'm hoping for an increase on the DoD side.

I also reached out to the Air Force's TDRL team to see how this works. I've been in contact with them since I had some issues with uploading forms and whatnot.

I'll post a different thread to clear this up for people because there isn't really any information about it online anywhere.

Update: at the 12 month mark, the TDRL team looks into your VA case to see if there has been a change to your rating and then they’ll refer that to the PEB. If there is nothing from the VA, they schedule you for an appointment for reevaluation. Both happened to me at the same time so it is making the process more complicated.

This is for the Air Force***

I wonder if I contact the Air Force TDRL personnel I’m coming close to my 6 month mark. I saw someone here get evaluated at 6 months.

They will reach out to you. You’ll get a message through MyFSS regarding a reevaluation. It will be around your one year mark.

Is there anyway to create a new login I haven’t logged in since I had my CAC.
Yeah you have to create a login. You might** be able to see your case, but odds are you’ll only see your initial one and it’ll be closed. There’s nothing you can do to speed up the process, so just be patient.

If your VA rating has increased and the DoD has not yet completed their reevaluation, you should inform them of the new rating as soon as possible. The DoD may take the VA rating into consideration, but they are not required to accept it as their own rating. If the DoD disagrees with the VA rating, they will conduct their own evaluation during your MTF appointment. It is important to attend the appointment as scheduled and provide any necessary medical documentation to support your case.

This is accurate and thank you for adding on!

How does the DOD rating affect you? Does your retirement pay change?

It is also important to attend the appointment because if you do not, you can be removed from tdrl all together for failure to comply with the program.

Yes, it affects your retirement. Since I went from 50% to 70%, I will now get 70% of my retired grade’s base pay.

I was at 70 and they dropped me to 50. I contacted legal… do you have a VA waiver on your RAS?

I’m not sure what a RAS is, but I didn’t need a waiver. I just contacted the TDRL team and they pulled my VA stuff and sent it to the PEB.

@AppleJack I am the same scenario...TDRL and VA evals happening at once. Which one did you have first and how far were they apart?

RAS is your retired LES. Still waiting on my VA rating.
