The accrual of VA compensation in a case like yours (inferred by me) begins on the first day of the month following the month of separation or retirrement. It is paid on the first day of the month following.
Example:
Retired (medically) 17 July 2023, the effective date of VA comp is the 17th of July (if it is the first day in a retired status)..
First accrual of VA comp: 1-31 August 2023
Which will be paid on/about : 1 September 2023
All of the above is predicated on you agreeing to waive retired pay dollar for dollar in the amount of VA comp received.

TAMP is a DOD benefit, you have to check to see if you have it. I think....call Tricare? Not 100%.
the premium is waived for med retirement. Just have to do the copays.
