Hello everyone,

I just received my DA 199 today and now that I know that the medical retirement is officially happening, I'm looking to see if I can get some help understanding both the RAS pay and then CRSC. Here are my parameters if anyone is interested in giving me some insight:

*Side note, I understand my actual retirement pay will be offset by my VA Pay, I'm still just looking to understand how my retirement pay will be calculated.

National Guard M-Day PDRL
16.5 Years of Service
High-3 is E-7
2440 Retirement Points=6.7 Yrs of AD Service after the math
100% DoD(Combat Related)/100% VA(Total Retirement pay will be offset by VA)

So my list of questions is:

1.What could I be looking at for CRSC?
2.How is my actual retirement pay calculated?
a. Is it based off the DFAS tables as if I was Active Duty? For example, will my RAS be as an E-7 with 6.7 YOS or 16.5 YOS?

Thank you to anyone who can give some insight!

CRSC pay is based off of VA pay tables. CRSC is to help you recoup money lost due to the VA offset for combat related conditions. Sometimes people don't get any CRSC pay even if approved as there are limits. Your chapter 61 pay is 75% of your HIGH 3. 75% of your HIGH3 is much more than your earned Guard retirement.

To calculate if you have any losses that can be recouped via CRSC you need to figure out the value of your Guard pension. So take your 6.6 years time 2% or 2.5%. It depends if legacy or on BRS. If BRS then its 2%. multiply it by your HIGH 3. So it will be 13.2% (Legacy Pension) or 16.5% (BRS Pension) times your HIGH 3. Take the pension value and add it to your Total VA compensation pay. If that total amount is higher than your total combined VA pay and chapter 61 pay after VA offset you are leaving money on the table. If you can get CRSC is won't be a lot because your Guard pension value is low. Maybe you can get a few hundred dollars. A lot depends on your VA pay at 100%. That VA pay numbers can change a lot depending on if single or married and or dependents.

Oh and the HIGH 3 is based on active duty tables. Forgot to mention that.

I appreciate the reply!

So by my math, my CRSC should get me something in the realm of like $900.

But I guess what I’m asking for when it comes to the disability retirement check that I won’t actually get, how do I get to that number? Not like how do I get that money, but through math how do I figure out how much my pre-offset retirement check is worth?
