CRSC calculator problem

I've been trying to use the CRSC calculator to determine how much I might be entitled to; however, when I input my info it actually shows a negative amount.

Could that be due to the fact that I'm a reservist and most of my years were not active duty years?

:( I'm lost on this too...

When someone is medically retired they receive the higher of PEB % of base pay or LOS amount. In many cases the PEB percentage results in a higher award amount.

CRSC is designed to replace the DoD amount that is waived for VA compensation. The "head spinning" factor comes into play because many fail to remember (in my opinion) that if their LOS is lower than the PEB % and corresponding payment, they are already being compensated better.

If VA compensation is higher than LOS some amount of CRSC should be available. However, if DoD compensation is higher than VA compensation there may be little to no CRSC entitlement because the PEB % provided that extra money compared to LOS.

*This is my simple view of it, but if I added more confusion to the mix I am sorry.

high 3 would be E5 pay 60% DOD and 80% VA and yes 50% combat related PTSD
Ok, let me give this a try.Might not be 100% accurate but should be close. I will be using 2013 military pay chart instead of trying to figure out your High 3. So an E-5 base pay for 2013 is $2707.

You were retired with 60% from DoD as an E-5 which you should be receiving approximately $1624.

You were only in for 7 years 11 months which is your length of service or LOS.
7 years 11 months x 2.5 = 17.78% remember for retirement purposes you multiply 2.5 for every year served.
So 17.78% of $2707= $481, this is the amount you would have received if you had been retired base on your LOS.

Now, you are rated 50% for combat related injuries. For CRSC purposes, they use the VA rating chart for compensation purposes. In your case, i'm using 50% with spouse and one child on the VA chart which will give you the amount of $946.

Because CRSC is based on the lesser amount of your percentage based on LOS or VA, in your case your LOS is less. (LOS=$481 compared to VA=$946) So you should be receiving about $481 for CRSC.

Like I said, this is just an estimate base on the information you provided using 2013 pay chart instead of your high 3. Hope this helps.

CRSC goes off your combat unfit ratings condition

So, can someone answer a question for me?

If you have a VA rated condition that was related to combat but the PEB did not find it unfitting, can you still file for CRSC for that condition?
