Hello @Aw2man

Estimate:

1. Retired pay 2685 minus 1930.18 = 754.82 residual retired pay you keep
2. 17.25 AD years x 2.5% =43.13% longevity multiplier
3. 5390 high three (2695/50% = 5390) x 43.13% = 2324.71 longevity portion of retired pay
4. 60% CRSC + smc-k = 1,251.39 + 111.18 = 1362.57
5. The combination of residual retired pay and CRSC cannot exceed the longevity amount.
6. Residual retired pay 754.82 plus 1362.57 = 2117.39 less than the longevity ceiling
7. Each month from DFAS:
--754.82 residual retired pay
--1362.57 CRSC
8. You also will receive your VA comp.

@ Aw2man, if you don’t mind me asking how did you get SMC-K, did you apply for it or did it say on your award letter after you submitted your DD 2680?

Please note that he did not state his SMC-K was approved for CRSC. I assumed that it was.

I provided the following quotation in 2015 on another board:

[Per the Army:] " Will Military Service Retirees receive additional Combat Related Special Compensation (CRSC) funds if entitled to a Special Monthly Compensation (SMC) from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)?"

"Possibly, CRSC evaluates whether a Military Service Retiree's SMC is awarded as combat-related. The CRSC legislation stipulates that only combat-related disabilities will be considered when re-evaluating Military Service Retirees' CRSC rates. The gross monthly amount of CRSC cannot exceed the gross monthly amount of retired pay, regardless of SMC determination. For instance, if the Military Service Retirees current CRSC payment is already equal to the applicant's gross monthly amount of retired pay, no additional money is due."

The CRSC board's decision would have to include the SMC info if it was approved. Otherwise, DFAS would have no basis to include it in the CRSC payment.

Note: SMC-K is not a percentage rated disability. It is an certain amount assigned to the condition.
