I was medically retired due to Crohn’s disease in 2022, which is in the same realm as UC and being placed on immune suppressants. It varies by case, so I don’t have a direct answer but if placed on immune suppressants to control the disease then you’ll have a 0%-5% chance of continuing your military career. I know times are emotional just figuring out your diagnoses. My advice to you is for you to be open and honest about your symptoms to your PCM, get the treatment you need and place your health first while educating yourself on your diagnosis for better understanding so you’ll be able to communicate that to your PCM.I was just diagnosed with UC, is this something I will get discharged for? Does anyone have any experience with this and can share what they think/experienced?
Thank you that information is very helpful. If you dont mind telling me, what % of pay do you get for that? and how long does it take to be seperated?I was medically retired due to Crohn’s disease in 2022, which is in the same realm as UC and being placed on immune suppressants. No problem. I was rated 60% for Crohn’s by the VA and DoD mirrored the VA rating for rating purposes, and the MEB took 5-6 months to completion. If you are med boarded chose IDES, not LDES.Thank you that information is very helpful. If you dont mind telling me, what % of pay do you get for that? and how long does it take to be seperated?
Ok thanks, what is IDES and LDES, I havent started the MEB process or anything like that yet.No problem. I was rated 60% for Crohn’s by the VA and DoD mirrored the VA rating for rating purposes, and the MEB took 5-6 months to completion. If you are med boarded chose IDES, not LDES.
IDES will be a lengthier process vs LDES but prior to separating from service you’ll complete your DoD and VA ratings which offers more protections vs LDES and DoD will mirror your VA rating(s) for your MEB’d condition(s) as well as rate any/all conditions you claim outside of the MEB’d condition. With LDES you'll only separate with your DoD rating and that rating will come from the DoD only, not the VA, and in some cases LDES will take the same length as the IDES.Ok thanks, what is IDES and LDES, I havent started the MEB process or anything like that yet.
You've had recent experience, so I'd like to ask; did you have the VA rating prior to DoD and then you Med boarded?IDES will be a lengthier process vs LDES but prior to separating from service you’ll complete your DoD and VA ratings which offers more protections vs LDES and DoD will mirror your VA rating(s) for your MEB’d condition(s) as well as rate any/all conditions you claim outside of the MEB’d condition. I received both my DoD rating and VA rating during my Med Board. For those conditions that caused the Med Board, the military will mirror the VA’s decision, if one selects IDES.You've had recent experience, so I'd like to ask; did you have the VA rating prior to DoD and then you Med boarded?
