This is has been extremely tasking to my mental health, which ironically is one of the reasons I’m being boarded. 23 years old, can’t walk without a cane, lift more than 10-15lbs, or bend.
Referred: January 2024
PEBLO picked up case: April 2024
Exams (first round): June 4-5
Second round exams: August 19
Exam findings: September 2024.

Required a second round of examiners because my original mental health examiner quit and never submitted my DQBs.

I submitted a rebuttal the same day to the findings, and have not had a single update since September. The PEBLO has been less than helpful, and the only information I can seem to get is “when I hear something I’ll let you know”.

My mental health DBQs were perfect. My physical DQBs however, were the complete opposite of what I need. The examiner (first of all, I’m a man being separated for my back, and they sent me to a gynecologist) put that I have complete range of motion, nothing is wrong with me whatsoever. The things she did acknowledge, she copy pasted the “clearly and unmistakably prior to service” bullshit. Including the 2 surgical procedures I have had done by the military.

I guess my question is, how worried should I be. Am I going to be basically starting over for a third time due to the incompetence of someone else? Or will the VA give me the benefit of the doubt and go based off my extensive medical record, command NMAs, and my personal memorandums?

So, have you signed your NARSUM? It sounds like you received one, and disagreed with it and had more testing done. Is that correct? Have you called the VA? Obviously your PEBLO is supposed to be the conduit between you and the VA, but you should still call them directly to trust but verify. For example, my PEBLO is incredible and always keeps me in the loop. I trust her. But I still call the VA weekly to ensure nothing new needs to happen and that we are still just waiting for ratings. Stay on top of your PEBLO and the VA. You are one person in a sea of thousands. It is very easy for someone to miss an email, a phone call or something.

I believe I got the NARSUM, but did not sign it. I submitted a rebuttal and IMR in September. I called the VA yesterday as you recommended and they sent me my IDES letter stating unfit and a proposed rating of 100%. But, according to the PEBLO, the PEB is still reviewing my package and I have not gotten a DOD rating yet. My PEBLO has been borderline impossible to get ahold of, and over the past year the few times I’ve gotten in contact with her the updates have been basically useless. Should I reach out to my MSC? I have not had contact with her since May, 2024 when I initially submitted my claims.

First things first, I would call the VA again and try to get the representative to send you the unfit letter and proposed rating. *Note: people have varying levels of success with them e-mailing items. Really depends on the representative. Also, can you see it on VA.gov?

Once you have those (hopefully), email them to everyone you have contact with (PEBLO, Attorney, MSC, etc.). Then, start calling all those people. Hi (name), I contacted the VA received an unfit notice letter and a proposed rating of 100% - I sent these to your e-mail. What are my next steps?

To me, it sounds like you are done. You just need to sign that you agree with the proposed ratings. I don't really care if you call them 15x in a day, and leave a message every single time. It is your case, it is your life, it is your health. You have been in the process for nearly a year which is ridiculous. Do not stop calling every number you have (PEBLO, Attorney, MSC) until you get an answer... today.

Good luck!

I managed to get the unfit letter and proposed ratings when I called the VA, super helpful representative. The only thing I see on VA.gov is that my case is closed, and it doesn’t have anything attached. Thats about what I was thinking, but just really wanted a second opinion before I make them dislike me even more .

I really appreciate all of your help

If your case is showing closed, then everything is done! You just need to go over the findings and ratings with your attorney and sign, and then you will be able to start clearing a few days after you sign. You are good to go!

*They might have to set an appointment with your attorney to go over everything, but still that should be the main focus today. Either signing (if possible), or getting that attorney appointment set up so you can sign early next week. You are literally a signature and a few days of waiting away from being able to begin to outprocess.

*** UPDATE ***
Finally got a hold of my PEBLO, sent her the “proposed ratings” for 100% and letter from the VA stating unfit. Asked what I should do now, and if there is any updates or changes. Her only response (same thing it’s been for the past 3-4 months) was “I can’t discuss anything with you until I get the PEB’s final findings.” At a loss, tried asking my MSC as well, but she has since retired and I haven’t gotten a new contact.

You'll get info in the next couple days. It took about 3 days after I found out my VA info that my PEBLO heard back from the PEB

My case with the VA has been closed since January 8th, and the only info she’ll give me is “it’s at the PEB”, which took from September til January to get my case to the VA to begin with. At this point just expecting the same thing in reverse, not getting my hopes up that I’ll hear back til April/March timeframe.

Just super frustrating, I’ve had 6 marines that I work with start a med board months after I did that have already been separated within 2-3 months of starting theirs. At this point kinda seems like my PEBLO might just be the problem, but every time I request a new one I’ve been told to kick rocks.

My claims with the VA closed on 7 Feb. I'm kinda in the same situation, waiting for the ipeb to conclude their portion of the process. My PEBLO has no updates for me other than "Hopefully we will find out soon". It is getting frustrating, especially seeing people get their final ratings in a timely manner....and I'm just here lol

Yup… still waiting from January 8th and despite my best efforts to contact/get information from the PEBLO I either get flat out ignored or told to kick rocks. Had 4 people that I personally work with start their board several months after me and are already out

Hopefully you have gotten a resolution to this, but if not have you tried going into the patient advocates office? File complaints with IG, go to JAG anything to make sure someone is held accountable. Good luck!

I'm doing a med board as well, started in March here in Hawaii. Was told.my dental exam may be 6 months or longer before I can finish my c&p exams..so I'm going back to Boston on leave and made an appointment there in two weeks..clown show for sure

A IT business in San Francisco just switched to GIS background checks to screen prospective job seekers. GIS provides detailed reports covering legal records, employment verification, and education checks. In one instance, a candidate’s report showed a older criminal record that the hiring team was unaware of. This caused a delay in the hiring process while the information was looked into. GIS pulls data from trusted records and multiple reliable sources. Some applicants have complained about outdated information appearing in reports, which has created hiring problems. Employers value GIS for its rapid turnaround times and in-depth data but often demand more clarity about dispute resolution. Privacy of sensitive information remains a significant concern for candidates. GIS states compliance with relevant privacy policies and uses robust methods to safeguard data. The complexity of changing state regulations creates challenges for standardized background checks. Many employers demand additional transparency from GIS regarding their screening processes to support fairness. Legislators are considering new regulations aimed at improving background check fairness. Experts advise that GIS keep enhancing data accuracy and customer support.
