Referred to PEB 4 months ago w/ no action

Hello!

I posted in this forum in April under the title "New to PEB, IDK what to do!" :

"As stated in my title, I'm new to the PEB and don't really know what to do. I am a 21 Y/O USMC female with 3 years active service with one year left on my contract. I was placed on Light Duty for 8 weeks after what medical diagnosed as a "hip flexor strain," and then later on "hip pain." I was placed on LIMDU for the latter on Sep 15 (stupid, I know) and after being given an MRI, I was found to have moderate labral tears in both of my hips along with sciatica and gluteal piriformis syndrome. I was given conservative treatment to date, and at the end of my LIMDU period, I was still in square one! Oddly enough, instead of being placed on a second period of LIMDU, I was referred to the PEB immediately after my first. So, I don't have an MEB to go off of, nor am I sure if they're just trying to get rid of me before my EAS and avoid "expensive treatment," or...what.

That was on 20160310; I was told that a PEBLO should have been in contact with me within a week or two, but it's been a month and I haven't heard from anyone at all. I turned my papers into the LIMDU POC and I wasn't given any type of advice on what to do (besides being told I should have never graduated boot camp because of my chronic stress fractures and other injuries) and I don't know what to do from here. My MOL says that my medical case has been referred to the PEB for action..whatever that means!

Any help is really appreciated, because if they can't help me get better, then I want to get the heck out and find someone who can ASAP!"

It is now July 05, 2016 and I have yet to hear from ANYONE concerning my PEB. I had hip surgery on May 18, and am standing by for further action on the other hip. When I called the LIMDU coordinator in regards to my PEBLO, he told me that my case was waiting to be accepted. I obviously don't know what that means, and with 10 months left in my contract, I'm worried that this PEB process will land me in MEDHOLD, and you can understand why I don't want that..

Has anyone been in this situation before?

Did you go to appointments out in town @ QTC?

The PEB has your case meaning they will find you fit or unfit. If unfit, the VA will rate your referred and all other conditions to give you DOD (referred condition) % and VA %.

Check E benefits to see what's going on there. If you have a historical claim, you're probably a month away from getting your findings.

I didn't hear anything for 4-5 months.

Hi! I am also a 21 year old female with hip problems, but mine is basically nerve damage. My PEB was just submitted for action in late June. What should I expect after that?

Honestly, I couldn't tell you. I never got contacted by a PEBLO so I don't know anything. I never made a claim or anything like that either.

Have you checked your ebenefits? If you have a case that says IDES then you were found unfit and the VA is working it.

That's the best answer I got was my Ebenefits claim getting updated. I've ben going through the IDES process since February.

Okay, so it's been a few months and a lot has happened since then.

I had a left hip arthroscopy in May of 2016 with acetabuloplasty (which is basically reconstructive surgery for an impingement.) Unfortunately, my surgeon was retiring a month later and I was his last case, so you know how that goes...My hip was botched, it's been 7 months since my surgery and I'm in worse pain than when I started. I also have horrible surgical scars that even the C&P examiner was surprised to see.

My right hip has the same issue as my left, however it is a more severe tear and I can't get surgery for it because my contract is almost over and I was also told that my left hip wouldn't handle it. I was also told I had hip dysplasia, go figure... and I might need a pelvic tilt or reconstruction (maybe even a hip replacement) within the next decade. Mind you, I'm only 22.

I didn't have any of this prior to service, so I'm genuinely miffed about all of this.

I've done my C&P exams, and I've filled out all of my paperwork. Now I'm waiting for my findings from the PEB (JDETS reports package at presiding officer 11/21/16... whatever that means). I'm hoping I'll get out of the Corps by April, which is my EAS date

I wonder how much my ratings are going to be and whether or not I can retake my C&P exam for my left hip..

I was on Med Hold for two years so I know how painful the process can be.

Has the PEB found you "unfit" yet and sent your package to the VA for their ratings ?

If your package isn't at the VA yet you might have a longer wait. But there is literally no rhyme or reason to some timelines. I've seen people med boarded and EAS in 4 months. Mine took almost a year. So there really isn't a time frame to look at unfortunately.

It's the holidays so I wouldn't expect much to get pushed through.

Also how many claimed conditions did you put down? I think most people don't put enough at first.

I just got my findings today (3 Jan 2017) and I was found UNFIT with 20% DoD and 50% VA with severance pay.

I put in a lot of claims, about 22 or so. My MSC had me write a detailed list of every injury and booger I had while in service, lol.

I'm not happy with my ratings...I think I was only rated for the left hip because my C&P exam didn't go over my right hip. My right labral tear (which is more severe than the left) was only addressed in the IMR.

I personally think I should be medically retired..considering all of the issues stated above..

I'm appealing my ratings, and maybe I'll go in for another C&P exam, but I don't know how that works.

Do you happen to know how long it takes from the time you appeal your rating to when you get your new ones?

I'm sorry that you didn't get the rating you wanted.

I can't speak for everyone as my timeline was pretty jacked up from the get go.

However the appeal process timeline depends on what you are trying to accomplish. There is a formal board with no VAAR, just asking the VA for a ratings reconsideration (VARR), adding new evidence to your unfitting condition(s) etc

I will say that my lawyer was fantastic but I also didn't have to attend the Formal board as it Was a paperwork mistake that needed correcting.

From what I have read formal boards and getting the findings back from the PEB, and VA if needed, can easily take 6 months. Again that's just a ball park figure.
