TIMELINE / IPEB RESULTS / ARMY

Hello all. Thought I'd provide my time-line thus far and my IPEB results for anyone who can benefit.

Physician notification of MEB action (P3 profile issued) : 7/30/2009
Initial PEBLO counseling / Commander notified : 8/06/2009
MEB narrative summary dictated : 11/25/2009
MEB with signatures returned to PEBLO : 12/08/2009
Date I was counseled on MEB : 12/09/2009
Date MEB sent to FORT LEWIS : 12/10/2009
Date IPEB results presented to me : 02/01/2010

My results are permanent retirement at 40%. It stated further that my injuries are combat related.
I was not rated on 12 other conditions.

1. Costochondritis, chronic : Rated by analogy to - malunion of ribs.Bilateral. 10% right, 10% left.

2. Tenosynovitis, right ankle : Rated as moderately sever reduction in ROM. 4 deg plantar flex and 20 deg dorsiflexion.


Needless to say I signed my acceptance rather quickly. This site provided valuable info before and during the process. Any help I can be don't hesitate to ask. My command was less than helpful during the MEB which after reading this site seems more common than not.

First off, Congrats on the findings! Second, WOW! You're pretty lucky that your IPEB took less than 2 months! There are many people on here that have been waiting longer than me (79 days and counting) and would love to have gotten their results in 2 months.

Congratulations! I hope all goes well for you in retirement. And thank you for your offer to support others with your experiences. That is one of the reasons I set up this site to be more interactive rather than me just posting things. I think knowing others experiences and being able to talk to each other is a great help to those going through the MEB/PEB process.

AMAZING and congrats! 6 months almost to the day from being notified MEB is starting to IPEB results returned. That is stunning!

Add the speed you flew through the process with the unsupportive chain of command ... wow again!

Thanks for the well wishes. I would like to comment on the "speed" of my entire process. I attribute the success of everything to my PEBLO. And to this site. My PEBLO fought to make sure I was given a fair deal. He was former 1SG so he didn't back down from anything. I'm still in a little bit of shock over the results. My final out date is FEB 19th. About 14r days and a wake up and I'm retired.

I know it was just his 'job', but I would make a point of thanking that PEBLO for being fantastic. While my wife's PEBLO isn't necessarily bad ... I wish that she could trade him for yours!

Im new to this site but not new to the MEB/PEB process, I have been going through this since early december, My story goes like this: I have Bilateral Femaral Acetabular Impingement (FAI)with Labrel tears, and Osteoarthritus in both hips, not very fun, My process has been rather easy regarding the PEBLO and the staff at Trippler. As far as my command goes, well lets just say that its very difficult when the command doesnt know a single thing about the MEB process, Just yesterday, the 1sg sent out an email stating that all MEB soldiers are no longer allowed to do anything involving ACAP or transition services... No worries though.......

And the wait begins... I have heard that they are really backed up, or really slow, doesnt matter which, I have heard it takes a very long time for them to return the results to Hawaii...
I have also heard that from the time it gets back from the PEB, you still have about 90 days left.. Now lets say that you dont need 90 days, can you leave sooner? Does the transition office basically ask you when you will be ready, or how does that process work?
 
If you are found unfit and separated/retired, it shouldn't take long to cut your orders and have you out of the Army. I was out in less than a month of receiving my PEB findings. Depending on if you are separated or retired, you deal with a retirement office or transition point. Both operate similarly, the second you receive your DA 199 (PEB findings) bring them to the proper office (based on your rating). They may or may not have the doc and will put in for orders. Immediately after this, go to the local VA representative and file a claim for ALL your conditions (including ones not considered by the PEB).

They will cut your orders contingent on how much leave you have accrued and if your command will authorize 20 days PTDY (I'd advise asking them before-hand). Once you have orders, you can begin outprocessing (in all actuality, many tasks can be completed without orders - but the big ones, like CIF, require orders).

For the PEB decision to come back, that's a different story. Could take a while or it could take as little as week (mine took about 7 days, at Fort Sam). Depends on many variables, but plan for at least a month wait.

That's odd about your 1SG. The reason it is important for MEB soldiers to attend all these transition events is because if unfit findings come back, there is little time to complete these outprocessing tasks. In fact, now that I think about it, a required part of my package that went off to the PEB was the ACAP completion form you get from your local transition/ACAP office. I'm sure your 1SG maybe thought people were taking advantage of being "MEB soldiers" and getting out of work by going to 'appointments'. It may be worth looking in to for your own sake, but completing ACAP prior to PEB adjudication may be policy/regulation because of the time constraints involved in separating medically unfit soldiers.
 
You are very luck that your timeline was so short. I was logged into the MEB process at Fort Knox on 6/18/2009, completed all exams and consults on 7/9/2009, then waited until 10/15/2009 to here from the MEB Doctor writing the NARSUM that he wanted yet another consult for ortho at Fort Knox. I comleted that on 11/13/2009, and as of 02/19/2010 he still has not written my NARSUM. This is now 9 months without a NARSUM out of Fort Knox. My Battalion Commander has contacted the hospital multiple times, to include the WTU Commander and the Ombudsman, however hothing has helped. According to my PEBLO, who is good, The Doctor that is supposed to write my NARSUM is a retired Army Doc who is now DA Civilian and this is his retirement job, he won't be told how to do things or how fast to do them. He works four ten hour days each week and is so backlogged that the PEBLO said the MEB section is not letting him accept new cases anymore as he never completes any. My only hope is that I am thru the process some time in 2010.

QUESTION 1:

How do I discover if I have sold back leave time in my career and, how much Leave time I may have already sold back to the Army?

I ask because when I was mobilized for Active Duty way back in 1996-1997, I know I had leave on the books back then, but never used some of it. So I assume when I got my discharge, I got paid for that leave which was accumulated during that period of active service, but never used.

I ask this becasue I currently have 50 days of leave on the books with this mobilization and someone told me that I could only have 60 days to sell back to the Army when I leave active duty service again.

So who do I contact about determining if I have ever sold back leave time and didn't know it?

QUESTION 2:

If I have already sold back some of my leave from way back when, then what happens to the excess leave I may acccumulate this time around? Do I just lose it with pay?

LEAVE TIME LIMIT?

I don't know about the Army, but my AF reserve pay office can pull that information up in a *Blink*. I will have 60 days accumulated leave when I finally retire. I have already sold back 60 days. The date on my retirement orders will be adjusted so I have time to outprocess and use that leave before my active duty duty orders are terminated.
