Title 32 Technician Medical Retirement Scenarios (Please limit posts to "Technician Medical Retirements")

My timeline for FERS disability
Nov 15 2021 completed the application for retirement with my HR department.

Nov 24 last day at work as per the only staying in 30 days not from military retirement but from notice of not being fit for duty.

Nov 29 army benefits center could not process retirement without separation/ retirement orders but AFPC is behind lost little time here and push as much as I could to get them

Dec 21 military retirement orders were sent to army benefits center my FERS retirement starts again.

Dec 30 last day in pay status transfer to LWOP.

Jan 7ish army benefits center called went over what my projected pay would be same stuff as state HR told me 6-9 months for pay

Feb 7 officially separated from the federal government and this is when I lost insurance but was told nothing would change. I was not contacted by anyone. They give me 30 day after that with insurance so became uninsured mar7. Called insurance and HR and was told I will have to pay for medical expenses out of pocket and will be reimbursed by insurance after retirement is complete. Didn't find out till March 16.

Mar 28 Army benefits center HR specialist notified me by call up to 8 weeks from that day to get interim payments, and up to 6 months for it to be adjudicated. After adjudication insurance would kick in. So potentially end of May for entering payments and end of September for retirement to be completed.
This is my timeline it sounds like other people have had better timelines I also just received today a letter saying they don't have my proof of applying for social security which I'd already emailed to OPM. 4 and 1/2 months ago I turned in my application for retirement through my HR and it could potentially be six more months putting it out over 10 months for the total completion. I'll update how my process goes maybe it will help someone. There are many government departments that work on this the employing HR department, OPM, Army benefits center, DFAS and social security. So it gets a little bit confusing.
Hey Jmc81 I will be keeping the timeline going still, I can’t believe that they can’t find you application for SSDI, I hope they can fix your paperwork and process it fast. I haven’t received any letters at home yet. I’m not there as Im with my wife while she’s is doing the traveling nurse work. But, I have some one at my house that checks the mail and updates me what came in

That's cool where did you live? Did you go to a different state? I heard traveling nurses are making good money.

We live in Houston, Tx, but were in Portland,Or. It’s a contracting job and it does pay her well. After 13 weeks here, if they don’t re-up her then she can pick another state. It’s cool to travel

Haha I live in Oregon but few hours from you. Wasn't expecting you to say you were in Oregon.

By any chance, I’ve seen Apache helicopters flying here, do you know what base they have them here Jmc81?

Oregon has no active duty bases Portland has the 142FW ANG and it's at the Portland airport. Klamath 173FW ANG with a squadron active duty both fly F-15. NG reserve all over the state, they could be from joint base lewis McCord South of Tacoma WA flying south. Your not to far from Lewis McCord you could drive up there and check it out.

Jesusej19 have you got your interim pay? I have not received my interim pay yet, I just called cause a week and a half ago they said it would only be days. I really am ok without the money but health insurance is not good I was definitely lied to. I have managed to speak with a few different people at OPM and they are working on a way to reinstate my insurance so I don't have to wait till the retirement is complete. If it was only going to be a month it wouldn't be a big deal but honestly I doubt it will be done even by September. They are behind by over 36000! All the different departments it's far worse than the VA! At least for me it has been, if they reinstate my insurance in the next few days I will retract that statement.

Hey Jmc81, I decided to call DFAS, as I received a check on Friday, I noticed my direct deposit was cancelled on my tech LES, when I called OPM today, they said it’s not my interim payment and couldn’t see that payment, she advised me to call DFAS, after an hour and half wait, they lady I talked to said that they did an audit in my tech pay, and saw that they owed me money from an adjustment they missed. It wasn’t from the leave pay as that came right after I got final date as a tech. So, no interim payments on my side yet. But OPM did say they are working on it and should hear from them soon. I hope they reinstate your insurance ASAP. Let us know what happens.

I thought maybe you were going to leapfrog me. OPM is as far behind as they've ever been. With that in mind I would think longer than ever. This guy talks little about the backlog. Than people going though FER retirement are commenting. Although the disability retirement takes longer to complete vs normal retirement.

Lol, no I wouldn’t leap frog you, I like helping and getting help on this forum. I follow that guy on YouTube too. On my LES that I recently got, it showed OPM receiving my application March 18. Hope that helps

Here goes the info from my LES.
I looked all over the site mostly in the remarks area nothing there. I was in LWOP Jan 3 and didn't actually separate tell Feb 7, I asked for that to keep my insurance and HR told me that it was fine wouldn't hold up the retirement. Guess we'll see if you leapfrog me than something that happened with mine was not correct. Have you called OPM and asked where you at in the process, they always ask for the CSA number? They will tell you what department has your retirement.

I still haven’t got my CSA number, I’ve been waiting for that to come in the mail. When I called OPM about the check, she did ask for the CSA number, but I told her I haven’t received it yet, so she used my SSN to help me. But thanks for letting me know about calling them to see where my application is at. Glad you have yours.

How long did it take you to get the CSA number ?
They sent me the CSA number Jan 11th in the mail. OPM tracks you with it. For me it was an indicator that my package was doing something, but it's still been over 3 months since than.

Nice, I’m still waiting for it.

Hey Jmc81, are you able to log onto OPM, and check the status of your packet?
No I couldn't figure out how to login. I was never given a username and password and could not find a place to register. I meant for to ask and forgot about it. Did you login?
