Received IPEB Findings/ Urgent Question on Timeline left (Medical Reasons)

I have yet to accept my findings, even though it’s all I’ve wanted, which I received 4/11/24. 50/100 PDRL.

Got a meeting with my attorney tomorrow (4/17/24).

My NLT date to submit an election is April 26th and I'm trying to see if it can get dragged out, so that I have an EAS in August or September.

Which is my goal and will give me more time in terms of seeing medical, knocking out transition requirements, checking out of unit, and the terminal leave/PTAD I want in July/August/Sept.

Has anyone ever received an extension after the IPEB Findings either to the 90 days or even more days for medical purposes?

I'm in need of the extra time and I'm concerned because i don't want anything to go wrong with the Proposed PEB findings.

Any information helps.

Talk to your lawyer. Find a reason to ask for a FPEB. You can later withdraw the request or proceed with a FPEB. Wait until the 26th to ask for a formal.

I'm worried about doing that because it could take even longer than what I need and has the potential to change my current proposed outcome. I just thought about potentially requesting a VA one-time reconsideration and buying some time with that. Then just potentially reaching out to the Retirement Management Branch in the USMC and see if I could extend by a month if the new EAS date does not do me justice.

What do you think of that sir?

It could. I would try to find a way to make it work instead of trying to strretch it out. Trying to delay when you have the results you want is just taking an unnecessary risk. I have seen NLT's extended to allow the Soldier to use all of their leave. That's the only one I have seen where it makes sense. Normally though the orders are amended to change the NLT date and then you can stay in longer before outprocessing.

So you mean to go through the process like normal and then once the new EAS date is out. At that point request an extension for leave and PTAD before out processing?

Do you know if i would be able to do that but submit for it later to allow the time for necessary medical appointments?

You need orders first to make the request and not sure on the marine side. Its allowed on the Army side with an O6 signature. How much leave do. you have saved? Its going to be hard to delay getting out for medical unless the issues are dire. Otherwise, they will just say to get out and find new docs and if it takes a while so be it.

Shit, that is my worry. But I know there's only so much I can do.
Currently, I'm at 43.5 days of leave, 46 by May, 48.5 by June, 51 by July, and 53.5 by August.
Plus the 20 days I'm hoping to get for PTAD/PTDY for "house hunting/job search"

My issue is right now I'm booked with medical appointments for the rest of this month and most of next month.
I'm assuming most of the medical providers I'm seeing need to be "cut off" at a certain date.
Then for Navy/Marines, it takes about a month to pull medical records. Which is needed for out processing before PTAD/Leave.

So I believe I can make it work if I get an EAS date of the end of August.
Cause I could stop going to medical at the start of June and then request docs and have them turned in end of June/July before receiving DD214 and going on PTAD/Terminal Leave.

I think that could work but I just have trouble making sense of things with the uncertainty of the timeline.
Right now I'm estimating them to give me an EAS end of June or July, and that would make the process even more stressful for me.

I know it's a "good problem to have" but it still stresses me out.
Any advice or words of encouragement will help/ be appreciated.

I would be patient and just wait for your retirement orders and review your NLT date to see how it all fits. If you aren't able to fit all of your leave + Permissive TDY (Assuming your command authorizes it) then that is where I would see if I can get the NLT date moved out further. If the answer is no, then use some of it and the rest sell and work within the timeframe you have. There is a lot of pain in the transition. For me its just better to get it over with because once you get moved and have new docs you can start planning out the rest of your life.

Thank you, I will take all of that into account! God bless and have a great day!
