Hi all, I am a drilling Guardsman with 18 years combined active and Guard duty, and due to some behavioral health issues I have had over the past year, I was recommended for separation, and given the choice to either be discharged and put on the retired list (benefits at 60, nothing else), or appeal and go before an informal PEB. I chose the PEB, since I (and hopefully my doctors) think that I have improved enough to be able to fully carry out my military duties, and stick it out until I can retire at 20 years.
I am curious about my further options as I go through the PEB process, though. The paperwork that I signed when electing the PEB stated that the PEB solely determines fitness or unfitness, and does not take into account LOD's (one is pending), or make decisions on disability benefits. At what point do those come into play? Or does disability come into play at all with a non-duty-related PEB?
Any information you all could provide would be much appreciated. Thanks!
