Hello all. New member to the forum so if there is a better, more specific forum, please let me know!
I have a bit of an unusual case. I am currently on LIMDU and it is set to expire at the end of April. I have a completely separate medical condition that could require surgery that would extend my total LIMDU period over the 12-month mark and trigger a MEB. LIMDU coordinator has confirmed this.
I am a pilot and I have received PCS orders to a carrier in May (disassociated tour) after the current LIMDU period has expired. The new PTL guidance for aviators is that we will serve out the entire 24-month disassociated tour regardless of MSR. My MSR is in June 2027, and my detailer has indicated that the MSR would be adjusted to meet the PTL requirements and new PCS orders would be issued once cleared from the LIMDU/MEB even though I would be within 12 months of my I-MSR.
I am planning to resign at the end of my service obligation, but if I move forward with this procedure, my commitment could be further extended if cleared back for full duty. Instead of being able to get out 2 years from May of this year, it would be 2 years from whenever the board medically clears me.
While this is a medical condition that I would like fixed, I do not want to extend my time longer than I have to. If my choices are get out earlier or get this fixed, I would rather get out earlier and deal with it later. So my questions are---
- Is it even worth the risk of a longer commitment to initiate a MEB?
- Does the MEB/PEB consider the proximity to the end of someone's contract when making a determination?
- If the MEB/PEB timeline is extended past my MSR, could I submit my resignation and avoid orders all together?
Thank you!
