Severance Pay

I noticed it wasnt in my final LES. Whats the time frame on getting that. If anyone knows.

What's up man? I just wanted to bump this to the top and ask you when was you DOS? Mine was 23 Nov, at my finance briefing they said it would be something like 8-10 duty days after DOS.... You know how many things you heard while AD that weren't true! I believe that our severence pay should be included with our final pay.

Wait, so your severence amount was on the last LES? Mine was just a normal LES but had the line under the deductions that subtracted the normal amount I get paid.

I've been trying to get some guidance on this myself for my wife. Her DOS was this past tuesday 30 Nov. I have the luxury to work in finance on Base so I was able to see her Severence Pay in the system. Her end of month was zeroed out and her final pay check and the elave she sold back is included.

I do have a question for you guys. Any of you over 12 years. Its my understanding from what we was told at DFAS that they pay one amount for the first 12 years then pay another amount for all additional years over 12. Have any of you heard this? MY wife has 18 years in.

I was over 12 and they paid me in one lump sum. I then later filed the paperwork to get the taxes they took out as well. You will get the taxed money if the VA rates you for the same thing the Army did. You will need to send in a request to do that. My severence was Base Pay x2 x numbers of years not to exceed 12. However, they may have changed the policy since 2006.

Good to hear from somone that actually got their taxes back. I waiting on my VA rating now so hopefully I can get my taxes back next year!

Severance is now 2 x base pay x number of years, not to exceed 18 years of active federal service. Good luck.
